There is excellent size, weight and punch to the big, rich and sleekly muscled flavors that are notably ripe yet there is a firm acid backbone that maintains outstanding focus on the admirably intense mineral-infused finish that goes on and on. For my taste this has just arrived at the front end of its peak drinkability though it should be capable of holding here with no problem for years to come. Excellent.

Tasting note: This is also moderately toasty though it's not enough to hide the hallmark spiciness of a classic Clos de B?ze along with ripe black pinot fruit, stone and game nuances. There is excellent richness and impressive volume to the extract-rich mid-palate that imparts a seductive mouth feel to the medium-weight flavors. The aspect that is really remarkable here though is just the sheer depth, which when coupled with the superb length make for one exciting wine. Note carefully though that this will also need extended cellaring.

This is still quite youthful with traces of mineral reduction on the lemon-lime, acacia blossom and green apple scents. There is excellent intensity to the delicious, delineated and mineral-driven middle weight flavors that flash good power on the long if slightly spiky finish as there is a touch of acid tang. The tanginess may well dissipate, or at least improve, with a few more years of age because as noted, even at 11 years of age this remains very backward and compact. Tasted many times in the last few years with largely consistent results as my ratings have varied between 93 and 94.

Tasting note: At the risk of waxing poetic, the nose is genuinely like a spring day in a garden with utterly beguiling and multifaceted aromas of an implausibly broad variety of flowers, spices, discreet pain grill?, roasted nuts and a hint of garrigue that complements the dense, brooding and very serious flavors that are borderline massive yet, like the Cabotte, betray absolutely no sense of undue weight or blowsyness. The explosive finish stains the palate and coats the mouth with dry extract and this is one of the greatest examples of this wine that I have ever seen from Bouchard but be prepared to be patient. A true 'wow' wine.

There are background hints of wood and sulfur to the otherwise fresh aromas that are clearly ripe, spicy and very floral. The superbly well-concentrated flavors are a marvelous combination of size, weight, tension and power on the palate staining, complex and hugely long finish. Despite all of the muscle and concentration, there is absolutely no heaviness, indeed the acid support is such that this comes across as impeccably well-balanced on the palate staining finish. If there is a nit, it's that this could use better overall complexity though in fairness, this beauty is still on the way up and I would expect more depth to develop in time. Excellent and still improving though it's sufficiently close to its peak that it would be no vinous sin to enjoy it now!
