The concentrated, powerful and muscular broad-shouldered flavors ooze with an abundance of dry extract that actually causes the very firm tannins to appear more civilized than they really are. Despite the reserve of the nose the austere finish is explosive and the length is excellent.

There is excellent richness to the cool and equally pure medium-bodied flavors that possess excellent focus on the explosively long finish. The tannins are dense but quite fine and this offers outstanding upside development potential.

I like the balance and overall sense of harmony of this seductively textured example though it's worth noting that some might find this to be just a little too ripe as there are hints of mocha on the finish.

While I did not have the time to allow the wine to sit in the glass long enough for the reduction to dissipate I did not get the sense that it was permanent and thus my rating offers the benefit of the doubt in this regard. The classy and very cool middle weight flavors possess phenolically mature and already well-integrated tannins as well as an ultra-refined mouth feel on the deep, balanced and gorgeously long finish. As pretty as this is, note well that the firm structure will require at least a decade to resolve and probably more like 12 to 15.

There is good volume to the supple medium weight flavors that culminate in a firm, austere and beautifully well-balanced finish.

As it always is this is rustic and austere and will need a minimum of 10 years to arrive at its peak but 15 will be better. The domaine almost never misses with this wine and the 2013 is potentially great.

This has just a bit more acidity than the Les Cailles and it adds to the sense of vibrancy.

The palate impression is classic Vaucrains with its rich, full-bodied, intense and overtly robust flavors that culminate in a hugely long yet quite finely balanced finish. This is indisputably a big wine but one that stops short of being forbidding as the copious dry extract buffers the explicitly firm supporting tannins. Still, this strikingly good effort is clearly going to require an extended cellar snooze. In a word, marvelous.
