There is terrific intensity to the mineral-driven and beautifully detailed flavors that possess a beguilingly silky mouth feel while delivering huge length and focused power on the impeccably well-balanced if still markedly austere finale. This is very clearly still on the way up and will need all of the next decade before arriving at its peak. In a word, brilliant.

There is excellent size, weight and volume to the impressively concentrated large-scaled flavors that possess plenty of supporting dry extract, all of which is underpinned by notably firm but ripe tannins as well as plenty of that appealing tension that adds lift to the linear and energetic finish. This beauty is also very backward and compact and as such, it too will require continued patience.

Tasting note: Here there is also some reduction though wisps of spice and game are still discernable through the funk. Like the Chambertin, the big-bodied flavors are dense, serious and stony with a mouth coating and seductively textured mid-palate impression and a very firm but not aggressive tannic spine that gives shape and substance to the hugely long and mocha-infused finish. This will vie with the Chambertin for best in show in 2009.

Tasting note: A brooding and strongly reduced nose introduces mouth coating and impressively concentrated flavors that possess impressive size and weight while positively exploding on the gorgeously long and mineral-infused finish. As it always is, this is a big and powerful wine yet with a bit more elegance than usual as the supporting tannins are really quite fine. Terrific and along with the Clos de B?ze, the class of the range in 2009.
