The firm tannins are suave and the backend explosive and while this is carrying plenty of oak, there is so much mid-palate density that the wine should be able to integrate it with a few years in bottle. For my taste this has reached its apogee though it should continue to hold there for at least another decade.

I like the tannins here as they're finer than usual and this finishes with real freshness and verve. The best M?o Clos de Vougeot since the spectacular '85 and every bit as good as the '05 if distinctly different in character. Note that I have experienced some bottle variation with this wine with one recent bottle displaying some VA and another marred by a touch of brett.

M?o has been generally looking for a bit more weight and punch with this wine and over the last few vintages and he certainly has achieved it here without sacrificing the elegance that has always characterized the M?o Clos de Vougeot. This most recent bottle seems even slightly more promising than I originally thought and I have upgraded it by one point as well as extended the expected initial drinking window.

There is good verve and detail to the lighter weight flavors that are by no means dilute but it would be fair to observe that there isn't exceptional concentration either. The finishing edginess that this displayed from barrel has indeed dissipated as I suggested that it might and become much more harmonious. For my taste this is still on the way up and while I don't believe that it will be a true long distance runner it should reward another 4 to 6 years of cellar time. In sum, 2008 is a perfectly good but not exceptional vintage for this storied wine.

There is real sophistication to the tannins supporting the medium-bodied flavors that possess wonderful intensity on the impeccably well-balanced and harmonious finish. This is flat out terrific and as good a young Petits Vougeots as I can remember. This should amply repay 6 to 9 years of cellar time.
