There is good richness to the full-bodied flavors that brim with dry extract that confers a textured and seductive texture to the beautifully long and silky finish. This is not especially elegant but the depth and punch are impressive plus in the context of the vintage, this finishes quite dry. Note that for my taste this has arrived at its apogee though it should continue to hold well for another 5ish+ years if desired. Tasted 3 times recently with consistent results (and no premox).

This may not be Lafon's best Charmes ever but it is a seriously, seriously impressive effort that is no where near ready.

This is undeniably of grand cru quality though one that has clearly arrived at its apogee. Note that while I have generally had good luck with this wine, I have also had two bottles that displayed wisps of premox.

There is really lovely purity here with beautifully elegant buffering acidity on the dazzlingly long finish. In sum, this is a great 2001.

There is impressive precision to the crisp medium full flavors that pack absolutely superb mid-palate punch, the intensity of which continues into the extended palate staining finish. The flavors are quite powerful, firm and crystalline, underscored by pronounced and ripe acidity buffered by a lovely touch of sweet and sappy extract. Simply beautiful juice that is flat out amazingly complex.

The second possessed a surprisingly advanced color yet the aromas are quite fresh with a picture perfect Meursault nose that is beginning to turn secondary in character with notes of apricot, honey, dried flowers and grilled almond. There is good power to the nicely powerful and succulent flavors that go on and on. This is really very good, particularly for its level and while it's not the most complex wine among the vintages tasted, it is wonderfully harmonious and complete. For my taste this is drinking perfectly now with no upside development potential remaining.

I found a subtle note of oxidation on the otherwise slightly exotic and overtly ripe nose of orchard fruit, especially peach and apricot, that combines with roasted hazelnut notes. The rich, full and admirably concentrated medium-bodied flavors are opulent and lush yet possess plenty of punch and verve on the mouth coating finish that is really quite dry and provides an interesting contrast with the natural sweetness of the mid-palate. I would call 2006 a power vintage for Clos de la Barre that plays on the edge of surmaturit?. As to an overall assessment, it's hard to say whether this bottle was really representative but I doubt it and in any event it does not closely resemble what I originally reviewed in 2008 (see Issue 35 or the database). However, if it in fact was representative I would advise drinking it up sooner than later.

This remains remarkably young yet it is actually quite approachable and overall, this is an exceptionally fine and one of the more structured vintages of recent memory for Clos de la Barre. In a word, terrific.

There is very good richness to the round, delicious and impressively concentrated medium-bodied flavors that possess excellent volume yet no lack of detail on the balanced and wonderfully long finish. A terrific villages and even a touch better than its usual outstanding quality.

Tasting note: The restrained but fantastically complex aromas are ripe, pure and elegant, indeed one can simply smell this and be knocked out. Like the Perri?res, there are copious amounts of dry extract, which imparts a wonderfully seductive character to the textured and classy broad-shouldered flavors that possess excellent mid-palate fat on the opulent, refined, mouth coating and palate staining finish that is mildly austere as well as hugely long. This will require plenty of patience from those fortunate enough to acquire a few bottles but the good news is that it will live for years to come.

Tasting note: The nose is troubled from the very late malo and thus quite difficult to fairly judge but the broad-shouldered and overtly muscular flavors possess serious power and imposing weight while carrying seemingly buckets of dry extract that really coat and stain the palate on the explosive and hugely long finish. It's clear that this is much, much less evolved than the other wines in the range and I suspect that it will develop equally slowly in bottle too.
