This remains remarkably youthful with its super primary, pure and very fresh nose of hazelnut, orange peel and subtle spice note. There is outstanding punch to the impressively, indeed almost painfully intense and vibrant middle weight flavors that brim with obvious minerality on the impressively long and palate staining finish. This is first rate juice for a villages level wine and the balance is so good that this will easily hold for many years to come. In a word, terrific. Note that while this isn't quite at its peak it's not so far away that it couldn't easily be enjoyed now. Note that a bottle tasted in November 2022 was sufficiently premoxed to be unenjoyable.

Coche has a well-deserved reputation for crafting superb villages level wines and this '08 will only add to it. I would add that for my taste, this has arrived at its peak but should have no trouble holding here for at least another decade.

There is excellent volume and very good concentration to the vibrant and extract-rich medium weight flavors that possess fine depth on the balanced and highly persistent citrus-inflected finish that displays a deft application of wood as well as ample minerality. This is a terrific villages that is still very much on the way up and while at 6 years of age it could certainly be enjoyed now, for my taste I would allow it to continue to slumber for another 4 to 6 years first. While this could of course be drunk now, for my taste it is still too young. However, if you're going to try a bottle I would advise decanting it for at least 30 minutes first as the flavors take their time opening up. The explosive and mildly austere finish is shaped by firm but ripe acidity that is impeccably well-integrated and this should age effortlessly for years, indeed it is not quite yet at its peak. In sum, this is text book Perri?res that has shown consistently well in my experience. Tasted multiple times since release with remarkably consistent notes.

This refined introduction is followed by stony and beautifully precise flavors that possess a positively gorgeous mouth feel before terminating in a driving, citrusy and stony finish that delivers superb persistence. This is an unusually fresh and energetic 2009 and while it could easily be enjoyed now it's clear that this should continue to develop well for another few years. That duly noted, it's no longer infanticide to consider opening a bottle over the next few years.

This is not especially elegant but the depth and punch are impressive plus in the context of the vintage, this finishes quite dry. Note that for my taste this has arrived at its apogee though it should continue to hold well for another 5ish+ years if desired. Tasted 3 times recently with consistent results (and no premox).

This may not be Lafon's best Charmes ever but it is a seriously, seriously impressive effort that is no where near ready.

This is undeniably of grand cru quality though one that has clearly arrived at its apogee. Note that while I have generally had good luck with this wine, I have also had two bottles that displayed wisps of premox.

There is really lovely purity here with beautifully elegant buffering acidity on the dazzlingly long finish. In sum, this is a great 2001.

There is good power to the nicely powerful and succulent flavors that go on and on. This is really very good, particularly for its level and while it's not the most complex wine among the vintages tasted, it is wonderfully harmonious and complete. For my taste this is drinking perfectly now with no upside development potential remaining.

I found a subtle note of oxidation on the otherwise slightly exotic and overtly ripe nose of orchard fruit, especially peach and apricot, that combines with roasted hazelnut notes. The rich, full and admirably concentrated medium-bodied flavors are opulent and lush yet possess plenty of punch and verve on the mouth coating finish that is really quite dry and provides an interesting contrast with the natural sweetness of the mid-palate. I would call 2006 a power vintage for Clos de la Barre that plays on the edge of surmaturit?. As to an overall assessment, it's hard to say whether this bottle was really representative but I doubt it and in any event it does not closely resemble what I originally reviewed in 2008 (see Issue 35 or the database). However, if it in fact was representative I would advise drinking it up sooner than later.
