Aromas of white flower, green apple and wet stone are cut with hints of citrus rind while displaying a hint of secondary character. The rich, pure and stylish medium weight plus flavors possess excellent volume but also wonderful detail and punch while culminating in an intensely mineral-driven finish of superb persistence. As impressive as this is, it hasn't quite developed the complexity that I thought it might when I first reviewed it. With that said, this is still very, very good and while it's knocking on the front door of its peak, it could easily be cellared for another 10 years. Tasted several times over the last two years with similar results.

Tasting note: This is slightly more densely fruited and just as complex if not quite as refined as the very ripe orchard fruit and white flower-infused nose is liberally sprinkled with lemon nuances that continue onto the round, rich and generous broad-shouldered flavors that are very B?tard in character and culminate in an explosive and palate staining finish of sensational persistence. I really like the poise and sense of harmony here and while it's too soon to know for sure, it's possible that this will one day catch the Chevalier as it's extremely impressive.

This is beautifully balanced and has everything it needs for a very long life. As an aside, this may very well be the best Sauzet Combettes Boudot has ever made, surpassing even the stunning '99.

Tasting note: In contrast to the expressiveness of the other grands crus, here the nose is restrained to the point of being almost mute though aggressive swirling liberates highly complex notes of spice, peach, lemon, stone and soft wood. The rich, full-bodied, tight and wonderfully concentrated broad-shouldered flavors possess a silky and seductive texture as well as superb depth on the hugely long and intense finish. Montrachet is naturally a big wine but this is massive by any measure yet it remains, like the Chevalier, impeccably well-balanced.

By contrast there is good verve to the opulent, even lavishly rich, flavors that coat the palate with sappy dry extract on the notably more complex and vibrant finale. This beauty is quite refreshing thanks to a hint of backend salinity.
