For my taste this definitely hasn't yet arrived at its peak though the excellent mid-palate density would easily allow this beauty to be enjoyed now. That said I would advise holding this for another 5ish years first. In sum, this is altogether lovely as about the only nit is a finishing hint of warmth.

This is strikingly complex and by far and away the best showing of this wine that I have ever seen, at least at such an early juncture and it seems to have fulfilled the promise that I originally saw from cask. Note that like many '09s that this could actually be drunk now though you would be leaving a great deal of potential on the table. Tasted only once from bottle.

I would further note that while the pliant structure allows this to be approached now, I would hold for another 5 to 8 years in the hopes that better complexity will develop.

However, in 2010, as was the case in 2009, this is much better than it usually is with a relatively perfumed nose that includes notes of earth along with the natural sauvage character of the vineyard. In fact there is even a certain elegance to the attractively layered airy and cool red berry liqueur aromas. There is good richness and fine volume to the moderately robust and muscular flavors that culminate in a balanced and linear finish that evidences mild austerity. I quite like this as the tannins are finer than usual and there is a real sense of harmony and completeness.

This appears to have just a bit more potential than I gave it credit for when I first reviewed it and I have accordingly raised my score. While not surprising at only 10 years of age, this remains markedly tight and will require at least 5 to 7 more years of bottle age before it reaches its apogee. Tasted twice over the past few years with consistent results.

There is fine richness to the solidly concentrated and unusually powerful, even muscular, larger-scaled flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the lingering if ever-so-mildly edgy and raspy finish. This showing is largely consistent with how examples from 750 ml format have shown. In sum, this possesses its attractive aspects though the balance isn't as well-dialed in as it could be. I would add that while this will live for years in large format, it's not clear that it will necessarily be more interesting with more bottle age than it is today.

The sappy, naturally sweet and concentrated medium-bodied flavors possess outstanding length and the extract creates a velvety mouth feel while buffering the still markedly firm tannins impart a touch of asperity on the mildly austere finish. This is certainly very pretty as it has both style and class though the mildly edgy finish mars the balance just enough to throw it off slightly. Note that another bottle tasted in November 2017 was badly reduced and not in a condition to be evaluated. My scores over the years have ranged between 92 and 93 points.

The intense, sappy and relatively powerful medium-bodied flavors exude a discreet minerality on the beautifully persistent and well-balanced finish. 2009 is a powerful yet refined vintage for this still youthfully firm effort that should continue to age effortlessly. I would add that in much the same fashion as the '09 Clos de la Roche (see herein), this could be enjoyed now though I would be inclined to continue to cellar it.

There is beautiful subtlety to the sleek, detailed, refined and admirably pure middle weight flavors that possess a plenty of minerality on the hugely long and perfectly balanced if slightly austere finish where the supporting tannins are dense but remarkably fine-grained. This is really lovely stuff, indeed it is textbook Clos St. Denis though one that is very clearly built-to-age and is going to need it.

There is a relatively refined mouth feel to the highly energetic, well-detailed and solidly mineral-driven medium weight plus flavors that possess a sleek muscularity on the superbly long and strikingly complex finale. This is one of those wines that even though it is still years away from its peak it is so well-balanced that it could easily be enjoyed now with 30 or so minutes in a carafe first. That said I would be inclined to allow this at least another 5 years of cellar time and 10 to 12 is like to be closer to the optimum. Tasted several times with consistent notes. In a word, brilliant.

While this could be enjoyed now it is very clearly still on the way up and I would recommend allowing it at least another 5 years or so first. In a word, excellent. Score: 91/2028+. By contrast, a bottle tried in April 2016 was notably better and that note is: The airy, cool and relatively deeply pitched dark red berry fruit-suffused nose is cut with hints of stone, game and leather as well as a subtle but not invisible touch of wood. The detailed, robust and firmly muscular broad-shouldered flavors are still presently very backward, serious and superbly long on the mouth coating finish. The supporting tannins are quite prominent but the overall impression is a well-balanced effort that will require plenty of cellar time to realize its full, and considerable potential.

Markedly ripe and floral notes are composed of plum, cassis, spice, earth and a hint of menthol. There is exceptionally good richness and volume to the concentrated and muscular large-scaled flavors that possess a velvety, even suave mouth feel before culminating in a very firmly structured yet well-balanced finale where the only reproach is a hint of warmth. This highly seductive effort is one of those wines that could be enjoyed now even though it is obviously still on the way up and will be for the better part of the next two decades. I would further note that this is more marked by the 2009 vintage than is the Clos St. Denis. Tasted twice in the last year with consistent results.
