Tasting note: There is a hint of funkiness that is akin to reduction but one that still allows maturing aromas of soft wood, floral, dark berry and a panoply of spice influences to be appreciated. There is fine richness to the solidly concentrated and unusually powerful, even muscular, larger-scaled flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the lingering if ever-so-mildly edgy and raspy finish. This showing is largely consistent with how examples from 750 ml format have shown. In sum, this possesses its attractive aspects though the balance isn't as well-dialed in as it could be. I would add that while this will live for years in large format, it's not clear that it will necessarily be more interesting with more bottle age than it is today.
