Tasting note: The Ruchottes is generally considered by most knowledgeable observers to be the best of the Ramonet Chassagne 1ers though personally I often find that the Caillerets is just as good, especially if one prizes minerality and finesse over power. That said, I was a bit disappointed by the amount of wood the 2009 version is carrying as it presently dominates the ripe and mildly exotic yellow orchard fruit suffused nose. The good news is that there is excellent concentration and an abundance of dry extract to the broad-scaled, lush and overtly opulent flavors and thus there is at least a reasonable possibility that the wood will eventually be integrated. However, the generous oak is not the only nit as there is noticeable if discreet warmth on the finish and overall, this is on the awkward side today. We'll see in time and my score offers the benefit of the doubt.
