I was highly impressed by the layering of the yeasty and slightly citrus-infused nose that is very much in keeping with the rich, full-bodied and naturally sweet flavors that turn bone-dry on the sappy, deep and hugely long finish. This is very vinous in character and the effervescence seems almost incidental. Terrific juice that could be drunk now or aged for a long time.

Aromas of white flower, green apple and wet stone are cut with hints of citrus rind while displaying a hint of secondary character. The rich, pure and stylish medium weight plus flavors possess excellent volume but also wonderful detail and punch while culminating in an intensely mineral-driven finish of superb persistence. As impressive as this is, it hasn't quite developed the complexity that I thought it might when I first reviewed it. With that said, this is still very, very good and while it's knocking on the front door of its peak, it could easily be cellared for another 10 years. Tasted several times over the last two years with similar results.

This may not be Lafon's best Charmes ever but it is a seriously, seriously impressive effort that is no where near ready.

This remains remarkably young yet it is actually quite approachable and overall, this is an exceptionally fine and one of the more structured vintages of recent memory for Clos de la Barre. In a word, terrific.

There is a different personality here as well as a touch of youthful austerity that will require a few years to emerge from its shell. A terrific wine of balance and finesse but there is no lack of grip. Highly recommended.

This is a velvety wine and while there is good underlying structure, the tannins are presently completely buffered by the pinot baby fat.
